Ophthalmic Technologies Inc. was formally acquired by Opko Health Inc. in November, 2007.
OPKO Health focuses on the development and commercialization of proprietary pharmaceuticals and instruments for the diagnosis and treatment of ophthalmologic disorders. Its lead investigational drug, the pioneering gene silencing agent bevasiranib, has entered a pivotal Phase III trial after successfully completing Phase II trials for wet age-related macular degeneration and diabetic macular edema.
OPKO is developing a preclinical pipeline of novel agents for ophthalmic diseases and markets diagnostic systems that complement its therapeutic products. OPKO Health was formed in March 2007 through the tree way merger of Acuity Pharmaceuticals, Froptix and exegenics, and is currently traded on the American Stock Exchange (OPK).
OPKO Instrumentation/OTI is dedicated to providing technologically advanced, easy-to-use diagnostic products to assist ophthalmologists and physicians in the detection, treatment and management of ophthalmic disease. The Spectral OCT SLO™ is the third generation OCT SLO produced by Ophthalmic Technologies Inc., and the first OCT developed to include visual function – microperimetry testing and combination SLO imaging. OTI’s existing and future products will be marketed under the OPKO Instrumentation/OTI brand, and will continue its history of innovative product development which has included the first internationally patented 3d ultrasound, first computer-based ultrasound, first dynamic recording of ultrasound scans, and first three dimensional OCT.
